Motto Apartments – Stage 2
12-14 Eve Street, Erskineville
Total construction cost: $16.9 million
Client: Austcorp

Stage 2 of the urban design winning development Motto Apartments has kicked off. Southern Cross Constructions began working on the project on 4th February 2008, with a completion target of mid February 2009.

The vital second stage of Motto consists of two buildings (C and D), consisting of 48 apartments and 11 townhouses. Building C is set over five levels with a lift core, while Building D is a three storey walk-up. The project also involves the construction of a public road and external verge works.

As Motto is a precast project, there have been a number of design stages relating to the choice of building systems. Currently a feasibility study is being conducted on utilising various wall and floor types, including precast walls, ultra floor versus hollow core, Waeger precast balconies, and Hebel versus Com Tex façade panelling. A significant part of the design is the use of blade walls to the Northern and Southern facades.

There were also a number of different planning options for materials handling and the inground works, in particular bridging of the storm water channel running through the site.

The apartments are predominantly north facing, with large windows maximising natural light and cross ventilation. Natural ventilation is also a component of the car park, which will feature louvres.

The Southern Cross Constructions team has good site access from both Eve Street and the Ashmore Estate right-of-way.
